Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows Part-2 As A Reflection of Your World

I can’t believe it’s been over fifteen years! I’ve read all the books and now I’ve seen all the movies. Last word: Good triumphed over evil!

Initially I thought to myself that this was too easy. Life isn’t black and white, good and evil. It is far more complicated. I also watch the HBO series True Blood and the complexity is a part of what seems real to me- there is someone threatening everyone in the series, so you can’t clearly label an antagonist, evil character or type. Vampire, fairy or werewolf, they are all good and evil — even the plain human characters.

But the Harry Potter series, which I think was really intended for children or young adults, clearly gives us one evil force and one villain responsible for all the problems in all the books: Voldemort!

Here is the trick though- while the Harry Potter world is simple in its good versus evil theme, it reflects a great truth about ourselves. It captures the duality of our own inner worlds.

The Oracle often speaks about this saying that we hold an inner and outer world. Our outer world is the world we live in with the people, things and experiences we have. Our inner world is energetic and intangible in this regard. It is made up of out thoughts, feelings and dreams; of our energy, our beliefs and our creativity.

Our inner worlds, you could say, are like the drawing board for our lives because this is where our ideas and dreams begin. This is also where our own inner cheerleaders cheer us on and our own inner critics belittle everything they can. If you are good at encouraging yourself, your inner world has more cheerleader, uplifting and positive energy; on the other hand, if you are easily discouraged or disillusioned then your inner world holds more critic-like energy so to speak.

In this regard, the world of Harry Potter is simple, but accurate and reflects the inner world turmoil and battle within us all. Just like the movie, there may be an army of death-eaters who cloud our inner world existence and are led by just one leader. For us that leader tends to be a limiting belief, something deeply ingrained within us that limits our love, abilities and our own allowance of life.

Also just like the movie, this “evil force” within us always comes back to some sort of lack of love. Most importantly of all, the dualistic world of our inner world is always reflected in our outer world. No matter what, our energy is constant so the limitations in one world always resonate into the other. For this reason the simplistic good versus evil in Harry Potter was great. Somewhere  in the last struggles with Voldemort Harry says that he has love and, ultimately, this is what Voldemort lacks and what causes his downfall. Sooner or later, this is true for us all. An inner world devoid of love may as well belong to a dementor because it will cause your downfall. An inner world with love has light and life shinning throughout it and your outer world and it will bring meaning and purpose to a longer and healthier life– simply speaking.

I enjoyed your interpretation of the movie. So true about our own dark and light sides and the power love has. Harry's choice to act out of love for his world and the people in it made the situation a win-win one for him. How can we possibly lose when we act out of love? Even if we lose our life our soul is in peace and rejoices. On the opposite even with all his power, with all his victories did we ever see Voldemort happy? HOne could feel sorry for him because he lived in a dementor's world indeed.

So true, Makayla. We can have compassion for him because when we don't have love, we live an empty life no matter how powerful we may be.
