Sure, There are Wildfires in LA all the Time, but Not Too Many Fireplaces
So, I’m an LA girl, meaning that I grew up in Los Angeles, southern California where a “cold”, though uncommon day, brought hail.
The weather is a bit different here in Santa Fe… if it only hails, then it’s not too cold and we’re having pretty good weather. Today it’s snowing and I’m home for the day. We recently got a wood-burning stove, which I have greatly enjoyed because the heat it creates really warms up the house. The downside of a wood-burning stove is that if I want to keep its heat going, I have to keep the fire going. Kris started the fire before going to work this morning, which I was glad for. Me? No, I haven’t started the stove’s fire before.
As I grew up in LA, I wasn’t even familiar with wood-burning stoves until just recently. Don’t get the wrong idea; I have seen campfires and such… So I figured that you just throw a piece of wood anywhere in the stove, you know, the way you’d just “throw another log on the fire”.
At 9:30 this morning, the fire was dying down, so I “threw another log on the fire”. Imagine my surprise when that didn’t quite pan out! Huh, I thought. Well, I’ll throw a newspaper under it to get the log going. Great idea, but if the newspaper is directly under the log with no breathing space, then it won’t burn. Ok, let’s put some of the smaller pieces of wood under the big one to raise the big one up and then light the paper in-between. Ok, that worked pretty well. Still, I get this funny sense that, had Kris, my husband, Howard, a school guide, or Amber, our school administrator, been feeding this fire it would be a bigger and warmer fire… even if they had used the same exact wood that I had.
Oh well, at least it’s burning and the heat is, well… not quite warming up the house, but good enough.
A couple more hours go by and I’ve fed the fire a couple more times. So far, not too bad. However, I am running out of wood and the wood outside is white. You know, it’s white from the snow! And I’ve heard Kris and Howard say that they need to cover the wood so that it doesn’t get wet because wet wood won’t burn. So, I sit before the door to the wood burning stove and I think to myself:
“Ok, those bigger logs… I’m just going to have to use them. They will last longer and there are no other choices, save the white wood outside. Ok, well, if the smaller log was hard to get burning, how am I going to get this larger monster-log burning? Ok, I’m pretty much out of the smaller pieces of wood and newspaper to prop up the log… (and, by the way, please don’t mention to Kris how much newspaper I used today because he says it creates a lot of ash and so he makes newspaper-free fires. Heck, if he doesn’t notice that the paper disappeared, why open that can of worms?!?) How am I going to prop up this log and get it burning? If this log is larger, won’t it be harder to get burning? Sure, I can go plug in the electric heat or start the furnace, but it doesn’t create half the heat of the stove and I want to feel comfortable. So, will this work?”
I look once more to the wood stack. There is one little stick left… was it there before? I look at the larger log and find that I am able to turn it upside-down and that there is perfect crevice that I can lodge the smaller stick in, while connecting the smaller stick to the small fire that is still going. An ideal set-up to get a fire going under the log so that the log will then catch! Thank you, unseen help! You’ve got to love when you are in the flow and things just work out! Was there magic in the air?
Is there always magic in the air? Howard is an advanced student (because one is always a student on the path of life) in our school and a school guide, meaning he works with students. Today he posted a great post sharing his deliberate intention tasks, tasks that he takes on to increase the energy in his life. He will speak more to this, but I am including his note because in it he is truly choosing to open to the magic of the Golden Flow:
Being Bubba
Good Morning!
Every now and then Kris and Kalyn will set forth for me a task of deliberate intention. I have probably mentioned this before, but a deliberate intention is the act of creating something with full awareness and intent; be it physical, emotional, mental, or energetic.
Recently, with the exponential growth of the school and K2′s teachings, I have found myself feeling like I am missing the boat. This brings up old feelings of self-doubt and frustration. Seeing this, Kalyn set forth for me a task to BE Bubba.
Bubba is a name that represents the higher aspects of myself within my full potential. Bubba is confidant, outgoing, and assertive. He has a strong sense of self and has a powerful love for his life and it’s challenges. Bubba is a creator.
Already today I have woken and chosen to let the old parts flow and chosen to be something new, something powerful.
I have made it to work and things are about to get moving.
Love and Light,
Bubba
So, here’s the thing: I was able to keep my wood-burning fire going and Howard is taking on being Who he truly IS. Howard will have a day of magic and being Bubba will come naturally to him.
Whether it is a small task that we take on or a large one, we need to see that we always have a choice available to us, that the magic is always there. Our Source, which guides our lives, is always working to help us out, to bring us a flowing choice. Regardless of the situation, we are given unseen help. This help is working for us and is trying to guide and support us “with love as we go through our life journey”, to quote the Oracle.
We don’t always feel supported and sometimes we feel rather stuck, as though there are no “good” choices before us. Even in these times, we are guided and supported and a part of the trick is that we need to choose to recognize that we do, in fact, have that magic or that help before us. Even when it feels like we are alone, abandoned, or up a creek without a paddle! We need to know that we can make our way back to our Golden Flow in life and then we need to see what choice before us will reconnect us with our Source’s Golden Flow.
The trick, then, is to choose Who we truly are, a part of our Source Energy. When we make the choice to be ‘the higher aspects of ourselves within our full potential’, as Howard put it, then we open ourselves up to receiving the help that is here for us. We open ourselves to coming back into our own Golden Flow, where we can get fires to burn and keep us warm all day or we can bring out our inner Bubba. The magic is always here for our taking, we just need to choose it.
Love & Light,
Kalyn
